Important Plex Changes – 29th April 2025

Hi, client(s) of Ultra.cc we felt it necessary to make our own announcement to make our clients aware that Plex Inc. is transforming the way remote access works. From April 29, 2025:

Remote streaming will require a subscription

• If you have Plex Pass (monthly/yearly/lifetime) – you are fine.
• If you do not – every viewer will need a new Remote Watch Pass ($1.99/mo or $19.99/yr).
• Mobile app unlock fees are gone.

Hosting Plex on Ultra.cc? Here's what it means:

• No pass? Remote streaming will not work without a new sub from Plex Inc.
• Already have a Plex Pass? You are covered, but be aware of potential Plex Pass price increases.
• Lifetime Plex Pass? No change – you are good.

Which pass to get?

• Just need remote access? Grab Remote Watch Pass (cheapest). Note this per viewer, not per server.
• Want full features and remote streaming for multiple viewers? Go with Plex Pass.
• Want to ditch Plex? Try Emby (freemium), or Jellyfin (free and open source) - both available on Ultra.cc.

To stream remotely, either your server needs a Plex Pass or each remote viewer needs their own Remote Watch Pass — one or the other works. Please act soon to avoid any disruption to your Plex experience.

Remember that on April 29th, Plex Pass (Lifetime) will be 100% more expensive, so now is the time to consider your options and prepare.
